MONDAY NIGHT’S ARE GOING STRONG AFTER 12 Years!
It is hard to believe our open mic that started in 2003 thanks to Bootlegger Host Ruthie Catalano, a special birthday for Eric Gloege and Jack and Gay Greenback who owned a Karaoke Company! They asked me to put on a show with tracks then host the guest singers. I said yes and we had a blast. Then Ruthie and the restaurant asked if I’d host a night once a week with the same idea. I almost said no as I am not a Karaoke singer I am a professional singer/ actress and work in shows and live bands etc. They talked me into it and the first night I wasn’t sure anyone would come but a few friends. Well the few friends did come from past shows I’d been in like the back up singers from Wayne Newton that I worked with. Another group from a dinner show I had done, some folks from bands I’d been in. My friends Bill Fayne and Clint Holmes stopped in! Lena Prima and a few friends of Jack and Gay came. It was a small group but what a great night. I made stuff up they sang I sang trying songs we’d never done? Sheena Easton came, Jack Jones, Bill Medley…. dancers who sing but don’t get to in their big shows! Tony and Tina’s wedding, Fantasy, Jubilee! It became the place to be on Monday nights you couldn’t get in! After Clint and I got together then engaged I took two years off. Lorraine Hunt Bono and son Ronnie Mancuso asked if I’d like to come back. I wanted to come back but I couldn’t call it Celebrity Karaoke and I wanted live music instead. Mike Clark was my musical director and I wanted to continue working with him and so the return of our amazing Monday started to build again as “ Kelly Clinton’s Open Mic Cabaret”! The band got bigger and we added at first Kevin Cordova on tracks and Dj for the night and soundman Shawn McGhee …then Kevin brought us Jake Klein when he left. We now have guitarists John Wedemeyer and Chris Clermont alternating the chair and Cliff Workman back from the beginning our first drummer!
